Job description
The R&D Innovation Director, Nutrition & Digestive Health is a member of the Category R&D Leadership team and exists to ensure a full, balanced and consistent flow of consumer-relevant and scientifically differentiated innovation into the development pipeline.
The R&D Innovation Director, Nutrition & Digestive Health is based out of Singapore, reporting to the VP R&D Nutrition and Digestive Health Category and dotted line reporting to the VP Innovation R&D.
Job Purpose
Lead a team of Innovation Scientists located across the globe, US, India and Singapore.
Ensure that the voice of the consumer is heard and that consumer input drives the initiatives pursued
Ensure cross category sharing of best practices and innovation by working closing with Innovation R&D.
Identify new Category opportunities in line with category strategy and ensures rigor and consistency in applying external best practice, cutting edge tools / processes within the Category Innovation team
Become a key partner with all category support functions; Consumer Insights, Marketing, Packaging, Design, Supply to build a robust pipeline that is routed on consumer insight and learning. Taking innovation thinking beyond molecules into a FMCH environment for the category.
Key Responsibilities
Delivers a consistent and balanced flow of science driven innovation into the Category pipeline, measured by the size and quality of the pipeline and the volume and size of opportunities qualified (consumer and technical) and successful transition into the development pipeline
Acts as the key external contact point for major partnership / innovation opportunities for the category , working closely with business development to build relationship and deal / JDA structures
Identify, assess and drive forward major and breakthrough innovation opportunities that fall within the scope of existing Category team
Strategic partner for Category Commercial on setting the longer term innovation objectives, priorities and partnerships, ensuring the set up to deliver long term, innovation-drive growth
Participates in cross-category sharing of scientific or consumer opportunities, breaking down any ‘silos’ and ensuring innovation drives across the category
Functional leader for all innovation scientist resource base within the category, setting functional objectives, driving standards, consistency and ensuring excellence in performance talent management – both as a direct line manager and via dotted line reporting to the R&D innovation VP and cross partnership with other category innovation directors
Line Management
Management of 6 direct reports.
Job-Related Experience
Experienced in partnering with Regulatory, Product Development, Supply Chain and Medical on the requirements for product design and an understanding of the approval processes within the OTC/Consumer Healthcare arena
Strong technical understanding on the requirements to deliver innovation (across nutritional products and OTC, preferably GI) to the marketplace
Excellent analytical skills, including strategic thinking, ability to frame problems and opportunities using supporting data, problem solving and measuring impact.
Demonstrated proficiency at leading complex multi-faceted projects and managing cross-functional teams.
A thought leader and self-starter, proactively identifying the need for specific analyses and programs, and marshalling.
Experience working in highly complex matrix organisation; leading teams of Leaders.
Proven ability to solve complex technical and operational problems in a timely manner.
Lead functions into unfamiliar territory that may cause them discomfort; therefore an ability to articulate and excite others around a vision will be critical.
Ability to juggle complexity, ambiguities and changing priorities in a pragmatic and objective manner.
Proven track record in leading organisations through championing collaboration and integration. Able to engage people across structures and geographic footprints.
Strategic awareness to plan, prioritise and implement innovation opportunities in order to optimally achieve GSK Consumer Healthcare’s Respiratory business objectives.

Educational Background
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
PhD or Masters or equivalent preferred in relevant fields such as Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or Biological Sciences Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
