Job description
Purpose of the Role
The overall aim of this role is to work very closely with Senior Management teams around the region to enforce the defined standards whilst developing the required tools and approaches to nurture an advanced safety culture throughout the business.
Scope of Role
Reports to: VP, Operations Delivery & Excellence, DSC APMEA
Direct/Indirect reports: 1 straight line regional manager, 22 Dotted line in-country Safety leads
Extend of travel: below 50% of total work time
Accountabilities
Responsibility for policies, procedures, work instruction and all other Safety records and aligning them to the global DHL standards as well as OHSAS18001
By means of continuous validation and improvement, ensure that procedures are documented and that changes are controlled and effectively implemented.
Audit for compliance and improvement in all aspects of Safety management across the region (22 countries)
Support complex business development bids in the sectors where Health & Safety are considered more paramount (Energy, Oil and Gas, Engineering etc)
Through a principled, professional approach, purposefully manage the selection and training of country staff, so that countries are suitably supported to deliver the required safety standards to the mandated level
Full decision making authority in relation to the strategy and management of Safety across the regions (22 countries) and sign off on all country dedicated Health and Safety Leads
Governance of Regional H&S Standards
Document Control: Definition, ownership and maintanance of all documents within the safety environment
Editing and Approving of all country specific Safety Processes
Implementation and Training of the Safety Standards
Ensure that all operational processes are implemented within their relevant environments
Control quality document management for all processes implemented
Provide support and guidance to country management with regards to safety process training
Internal Auditing
Health, Safety and Environment audits utilising QA and Safety management in country, All sites and transport
Projects
Actively support risk management process for new start ups
Customers (Internal/External)
Internal - Should be capable of operating across a spectrum of issues, which range from fairly conceptual in nature to quite operational and immediate
External - Is required to be flexible and innovative in support of a business environment, which is becoming increasingly competitive and dynamic
Desired Skills and Experience
Key Capabilities / Competencies
Sound knowledge of logistical operational processes
Functional expertise in other areas such as project work, development change management etc
Strong analytical and numerical skills
Sound interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to express an opposing view effectively and with cultural sensitivity
Excellent communicator (verbal & written)
MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and Visio
Language
Fluent in business English (minimum), one other regional language would be an advantage
Expected Years of Experience (minimum)
10 years of experience in a management role with safety responsibilities
Previous experience in Energy sector (desirable)
Previous experience in Transport management (desirable)
Expected Educational Qualification
University degree
Recognised safety qualification
