Tax Manager - APAC - Google - Singapore


Job description

Google's in-house tax team knows all things corporate tax. Made up of smart, perceptive Googlers with a flair for domestic, international and sales and use tax, the knowledge and expertise of this team runs deep. You have years of experience in this field and an extensive knowledge of those tax issues most relevant to internet companies. While we don't give our Googlers individual tax advice, you make it easy for Googlers to get what they need to make good tax decisions. You find ways to work smarter by streamlining and automating our tax processes and systems, and find ways to be both innovative and compliant.

Google's Tax department in the Asia-Pacific region is growing! You will succeed in this role if you have strong tax technical skills, good judgment and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and unstructured environment. This role reports into the Head of Tax, APAC, based in Singapore.

Responsibilities
Manage tax audits and controversies in APAC across different areas of taxation (e.g., income tax, transfer pricing, stamp duty, GST, VAT, JCT), and provide proactive tax advice with respect to the group's operations in the APAC region, and advising on tax consequences of new products and services launches in the region.
Assist with tax planning projects in APAC with respect to Google’s operations and businesses, and partner with regional business leaders, finance and legal teams in addition to external advisers on various business and tax planning matters.
Monitor and analyze proposed and newly enacted tax legislation and assist with defining and implementing appropriate local country tax planning strategies.
Manage outsourced tax compliance process for APAC and supporting U.S. international tax compliance for relevant subsidiaries including providing assistance with FIN 48 documentation process.
Advise on tax consequences of various transactions including assistance in acquisition integration and reorganization activities, such as due diligence and liquidation or reorganization of acquired subsidiaries.



Minimum Qualifications

Accounting qualification and/or LLB degree or equivalent practical experience.
6 years of experience in a law firm or accounting firm
5 years of tax planning, advisory, and audit defense experience.


Preferred Qualifications

Technical skills and experience of advising on international tax matters.
Demonstrated experience advising internal/external clients on cross-border tax issues relating to technology and technology-enabled services.
Knowledge of tax regulations and treaty interpretations in Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan, and OECD and UN guidelines on transfer pricing.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects at one time. Ability to manage complex projects and work independently to achieve overall company business objectives.
Strong writing, analytical and research skills with an ability to clearly communicate tax technical issues, especially with non-tax professionals.
