Job Description
The Director will lead team(s) of scientists responsible for delivering innovative products aligned with the commercial ambition and strategy to support their sub-category pipeline. Ensure projects meet agreed objectives, timelines and budgets. Works in collaboration with New Products Research, Medical, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Supply Chain and others on projects ranging from identifying technology solutions to meet agreed consumer needs, fundamental technical understanding of the formulation and its active ingredient, to proof of principle, to full development and commercialisation. Manages overall project R&D priorities and ensures team activities are in accordance with GSK standards and regulations, taking into account scientific, budgetary, timing objectives and direction from supervisor. This role while Singapore based is a global role with responsibilities spanning GSK’s global Consumer Health Markets.
Job Responsibilities
• Executes a strategy leading NPD teams & influencing broader R&D functions to identify & deliver the goals of development projects. This strategy would include working with Global Resourcing to identify 3rd party organizations which can develop new products from prototype to registration/pivotal clinical/stability batches.
• Partners with the wider R&D functions to identify, define and deliver technology solutions addressing with scientific excellence against identified commercial & consumer needs.
• Provides NPD input into Innovation Briefs, Due Diligence on licensing and Business Development opportunities.
• Ensures optimal utilization of resource to support exploratory and development opportunities for product pipeline. Develops against lead market needs & timelines, but with a view to delivering NPD’s fit for global roll out.
• Provides technical leadership and direction to the NPD Team.
• Ensures principals of Quality of Design (QbD), Operational Excellence (OE) and Value Engineering/Design to Value are appropriately utilized in the product development process.
• Develops strong, collaborative relationships with other departments/groups and fosters an environment of knowledge sharing.
• Participates in the identification, recruitment and retention of talent.
• Creates an environment that encourages both technical and leadership development and rewards appropriately.
• Demonstrates by example high standards for individuals in key areas of technical activities and effectiveness.
• Supports opportunities for training, development and coaching/guidance when needed.
• Establishes an environment that supports and nurtures scientific understanding and innovation among the team.

• Directs the development of all activities in accordance with GSK policies, laws, quality standards, SOPs, etc.
• Ensures that self and staff are appropriately trained, and maintain training to current requirements.
• Ensures that internal staff are working and maintaining labs in a safe manner and that housekeeping is maintained.
• Reviews quality of data, reports and documents produced by team; directs the recording and reporting of results.
• Ensures that documents, formulations and analytical methods produced in accordance with appropriate levels of GMP’s, SOPs and safety requirements; ensures appropriateness of specifications for drug substances/products.
• Approves all CMC documentation and response to regulatory agency queries.
• Keeps current on literature and attends scientific meetings and symposiums to ensure product development for the category stays at the leading edge of trends, developments and technologies.
• Provides relevant input to budgeting process.
• Proactively reports and communicates with key stakeholders utilizing proper tracking mechanisms that manage timelines and budget requirements.
Job Requirements
• Bachelor degree or equivalent.
• Specialize in chemical, pharmaceutical, gastroenterology or related science.
• 10+ years of experience.
• History of demonstrated expertise in the development of conventional and novel solid, semi-solid and/or liquid dosage forms executed across multiple international regions and markets.
• Demonstrated results in connecting science and technology solutions with consumer insights to realise market winning innovations on products and claims.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills at all levels within the organization; strong technical writing capability.
• Track record of coaching, mentoring, influencing and developing people to build strong collaborative teams working in a high performance environment in a culture that values scientific rigor and empowerment across multisite R&D teams.
• External communication, influencing and/or network with regulators, external collaborators and/or scientific experts within an international matrixed business environment.
• Excellent relationship building, influencing and organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent understanding of Drug and Food GMPs as relevant to GSK Consumer Healthcare as well as familiar with FDA, European and global regularity requirements, such as ICH Excellent understanding scientific of and commercial aspects of Consumer Healthcare industry across multiple international regions and markets.
• Demonstrated ability to influence a broad set of internal stakeholders to ensure the right innovation programs are identified, prioritised & executed within an international matrixed business environment.
• Experienced in negotiating and agreeing timelines and milestones with sponsors/ business partners and continually monitoring progress to ensure timely delivery.
• Deep and demonstrated understanding of Quality of Design (QbD), Operational Excellence (OE) and Value Engineering/ Design to Value principles and how they apply in a Consumer Healthcare R&D environment. Bachelor degree or equivalent.
