Job Description:
The Job purpose is to improve public health by finding healthcare solutions for identified patients and consumers through the appropriate and effective use of our products and services utilizing the highest ethical and compliance standards.

The Medical Lead for Consumer Health Care (CHC) for Asia & JPAC Regions (APAC) is a leading partner within the full chain of value creation who understands the current healthcare environment and anticipates how relevant market dynamics and consumer insights may impact how our medicines, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and medical devices are used.

The incumbent is the principal medical authority and is responsible for the leadership and coordination of medical and scientific activities and for providing strategic advice in support of business initiatives for APAC.



Fulfillment of these purposes requires:



Leadership:
Regional lead role in providing strategic direction for the relevant CHC areas based on consumer insights, medical knowledge and industry experience
Provide scientific leadership for the CHC regional organization, within a matrix structure, the Medical Affairs function, and in coordination with the relevant local organizations.
Scientific excellence:
Application and translation of medical and scientific expertise to strategic medical plans
Scientific credibility when engaging in internal and external communication and education initiatives
External stakeholder engagement & relationships
Clinical excellence:
Strategic medical plans that support the LCM of the affiliates across the region and the portfolio of the designated therapeutic area
Timely and transparent data / publication planning and generation
CSU / CRO collaboration
Operational excellence and risk management:
Responsible medical budget management
Proactive compliance and quality management
Scientific, professional and ethics based risk management
Continuous performance improvement across all our processes, systems and activities
Actively drive the management and development of talent at regional and local levels


Health policy awareness:
Awareness of social and policy trends affecting medical practice
Ability to network with healthcare professionals, payers, policy makers and advocacy groups as applicable in each geography
Ability to anticipate and maximize medical value in clinical trials, registries and other initiatives including Rx-to-OTC switch application.
Major responsibilities



Develop and execute an integrated regional/global medical strategy that is consistent with the global clinical development and LCM plan for both CHC.
Provide input into the regional clinical development and LCM strategy and plans for the CHC area of interest for APAC geographical perimeter.
Ensure the communication of the vision, mission and strategy to all internal and external stakeholders to set direction and obtain alignment.
Identify synergies and propose the appropriate resource allocation for critical medical initiatives and drive the constant development and simplification of medical processes
Maintain and expand value proposition of marketed products
Develop medical strategy for CHC product portfolio in close collaboration APAC Business and Development & Innovation groups (e.g. registration studies, product development studies…) that are funded by Pharma Operations with the support of local or global R&D platforms for execution (CSU/CSO)
Ensure the scientific integrity of sponsored and supported research, information, and relationships with healthcare providers and patient advocacy groups
Develop and nurture a regional network of key opinion leaders in the categories of interest
Provide scientific communication to all key stakeholders with regional relevance


Proactively deliver medical expertise to business partners in support of business decision making
Build a strong culture of customer focus and insight across all relevant categories for APAC
Ensure good promotional excellence guidance application for CHC across Asia & JPAC Regions


Provides leadership and direction in support of a coordinated and aligned global medical-regulatory team that is focused on supporting the delivery of the medical objectives at regional and country level (and indirectly at local level when relevant)
Conveys the strategic direction for the portfolio as defined in partnership with the CHC Divisions
Leads strategic implementation in close collaboration with the affiliate medical teams
Provide medical expertise to the medical parts of dossier deliverables for the Asia & JPAC CHC products not covered by the Global CHC Division (e.g. CTA dossier, line-extension dossier, renewal dossiers, periodic benefit-risk evaluation dossiers and Health Authoritie’s questions)
Establish the highest ethical standard for the Medical function by demonstrating proactive and effective issue resolution
Appropriately balance priorities and activities within a triple reporting relationship
Support affiliates with the development of strategy and tactics.


External activities

Develop and maintain individual relationships with KOLs through non-promotional scientific dialogue pertinent to Sanofi’s interests and advocate multi-dimensional patient-centric therapeutic approaches
Ensure existing KOL relationships with Sanofi scientists are sustained and strengthened via appropriate KOL engagement plans
Lead and participate in Sanofi created scientific forums that involve KOLs
Ensure a constant monitoring of the competitive environment and business activities of competitors. Provide guidance and recommendations on relevant counter action plans to the commercial management.
Foster relationships with key professional societies and organizations
Maintain credibility by being on the leading edge of clinical science and by being able to anticipate treatment paradigm shifts
Participate collegially in selected regional / local activities to provide global perspective
Ensure customer satisfaction, strategic medical plan implementation and success and leveraging and sharing best practices within various industries


- Internal activities



Develop regional strategic integrated medical plan for relevant CHC areas.
Provide strategic input into country medical plans
Build leading partnership with business and other relevant functions
Create and execute an effective and transparent publication strategy and plan
Manage the relevant medical budget proactively and responsibly and provide input to regional and local medical budget planning where necessary
Ensure appropriate communication on CHC issues to the relevant medical positions


Desired Skills and Experience
Required educational background and job related experience

Expertise in designated therapeutic area
Minimum of 5 years of job related experience
Must have MD qualification
Strong track record in developing and executing medical strategy within the respective therapeutic area
Experience in working across and building effective partnerships between business, Medical, and Regulatory in a multinational context
In-depth understanding of the regulatory and medico-legal aspects of pharmaceutical products, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and medical devices, as demonstrated by a successful track record of interaction with relevant agencies (including health authorities), associations and groups
Extensive experience in dealing with safety issues
Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical and consumer health care businesses
Experience working within an international company with a complex organizational environment and the ability to operate in a matrix, team oriented structure
Significant leadership experience, and proven ability to influence and impact
Ability to respond to changing environments and circumstances
Strong commercial acumen and strategic ability
Consumer insight and business-minded approach understanding
