Job Description
Reporting to the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Investigations, the Investigations Counsel will be part of a global team of lawyers and HR professionals managing external and internal investigations throughout the company.
The Investigations Counsel will be:
- Responsible for managing, overseeing, conducting and providing legal guidance for investigations into allegations of violations of HP's Standards of Business Conduct ("SBC") and pending government investigations as well.
- Working closely with the Ethics and Compliance Office, including the VP of Compliance, HP's Anticorruption Counsel and the VP of Internal Audit to identify areas of weaknesses identified in investigations to ensure that appropriate remedial actions are put in place across HP to help prevent repeat violations.
- Working with others in the Legal Department, global functions and the businesses to ensure proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
The Investigation Counsel should possess:
- Significant experience working in or supporting various diverse markets (including emerging markets) and demonstrated success in advising and supporting senior executives.
- Demonstrated ability to be diplomatic and culturally sensitive but firm when necessary is a key asset for the role.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to lead and even conduct complex investigations personally are required for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, excellent writing skills and as a strong team-player be able to work well with others at various levels of the organization.
- As the position requires working across various functions within the company, demonstrated networking and influencing skills are required.
- Understanding of HP's business environment.
- Experience with governmental investigations and anti-corruption statute is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in communicating to and working with senior executives on business critical issues.
Desired Skills & Experience
The successful candidate is expected to possess the following qualifications:
- A BS or equivalent degree
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent
- 10+ years of relevant Legal experience; at least 3+ years of experience in investigations and experience as a prosecutor
- Strong substantive skills in Anti-Corruption (i.e., Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other Anti-Corruption statutes).
- Understanding of complex regulations with an ability to communicate to business leaders and employees.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage effectively in a highly-matrixed environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience in reporting to senior executives and Boards of Directors is a positive differentiator.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, networking and influencing skills.
