Job Description:
This Director level position leads functional Mechanical Engineering Team responsible for HDD product mechanical design for Seagate Singapore Design Center (SSDC). This role will have direct reporting support of the product focused Mechanical Engineering resources within the division and will report directly to the Senior Director of Servo/Mechanical Engineering for Client Design Group.
Conceives and develops solutions to engineering programs through the application of professionally accepted engineering techniques, practices and procedures. Specifically, the role will be responsible for implementing the Mechanical Designs following Seagate's Product Development Process (PDP) staged through Advanced Drive Development team into productization. The Director of Mechanical Engineering will ensure the products meet Mechanical Engineering requirements within product schedules through the appropriate application of engineering resources.
This position is expected to be highly collaborative with other functional Engineering Directors in particular Servo Engineering and Assembly Engineering. As well, close partnership with counterpart in Seagate Korea Design Center is expected to mplement common best practices and balance resource utilization for best overall efficiency across the combined Client Design Group.
Other responsibilities include:
Responsible for static and/or dynamic design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and packages. Typical duties: Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
Provides strategic leadership and management to a complex, integrated single function. Manages two or more Engineering Managers.
Participates with other senior managers or directors to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures operations effective achievement of objectives. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and people. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization. Typically directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers within the company. Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.
Desired Skills and Experience
The candidate should possess at least 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering background.
It is highly preferred for one to be familiar in Hard Disk Drive environment with focus on Mechanical Design.
Experience with control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, collaboration and a problem solver who can make recommendations.
The talent is expected to be independent, has leadership quality to lead a team, and innovative in R&D projects.
Education requirement BSME with Master's Degree preferred.
