THE BUSINESS: Asia Public Sector Government Industry - CityNext

The Director, Asia Government Time Zone Lead is responsible for assisting in the development of Microsoft’s government industry strategy across the APAC, India, Japan, and Greater China sales areas, with specific focus on developing city solutions at city-scale. She/he will be responsible for implementing the appropriate go-to-market plans to execute the strategy as part of the Microsoft CityNext program in Asia. As such, she/he will be responsible for supporting each of the critical steps in city sales strategy, development, and solution’s life-cycle. This includes: understanding industry trends and how they translate to MSFT opportunity, partner selection, strategic investment, field readiness and engagement, corporate development, feedback to the Business Groups, evangelism of strategy to partners, customers, and within the industry at large, standards body engagement, marketing programs to support the strategy, and executive sales support.

The Asia Public Sector Government Industry Lead will lead a virtual team of government-focused industry, technology and marketing managers and specialists, based in Asia, and supporting the Worldwide Corp government industry team at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington (USA). This team leads a community comprised of government industry account teams in major geographies and/or subsidiaries around the world. The Asia Government Time Zone Lead will be accountable to contribute to strategy development, and to execute that strategy with appropriate modification to fit the needs of selected Microsoft geographies and subsidiaries. She/he will be responsible for understanding the make-up of Microsoft’s global business in the industry, and for driving results through regular business reviews with account teams and Area Government leadership. The Asia Public Sector Government Industry Lead is responsible for the results of the Asia government business, as well as close collaboration with the management teams. The Asia Public Sector Government Industry Lead will be viewed as the main point of contact and ultimate owner for all issues relating to managing and driving assigned Government industry strategy components, including: solutions, partners, marketing, evangelism and industry and executive relations.

The position requires CxO level communications, negotiation and relationship skills with partners, customers, analysts, press, and industry organizations. In addition to external contacts, this position requires the ability to interact with all levels within Microsoft including the senior leadership team, business groups and the Enterprise Partner Group Field Leadership Team. As detailed below, the job will require a person with the highest levels of industry experience, technical knowledge, strategic knowledge, management and communication/speaking skills, solutions sales, and partner engagement.

The Asia Public Sector Government Industry Lead is expected to engage with senior public sector leaders, city leaders, global partners, media, industry associations, leading industry analysts, and all levels of Microsoft staff up to executive management; Enterprise Partner Group WW field resources; Business Groups; Government Affairs teams, and public relations groups.

Qualifications Recommended:

Excellent communication, planning, presentation, and executive-level sales and relationship skills are essential.

In-depth knowledge of Public Sector issues and some city specific domains (e.g. Transportation, Public Safety, Public Health, Education, Energy & Utilities, Buildings & Infrastructure, Tax & Finance, and/or Culture & Tourism), with a special focus and understanding on the unique requirements of the Government industry on a regional and/or global basis. Typically these skills will have been developed during a career of 10+ years working in the Public Sector or IT industry, selling/marketing IT products, services, or devices and/or managing technology enabled Public Sector programs across multiple geographies. Ability to think strategically, demonstrate business judgment and acumen; ability to lead and motivate, communicate effectively with demonstrated strong presentation skills and negotiation skills; strong project management skills.

Masters Degree level preferred, BA/BS degree in Government-related, Business, or Marketing fields or equivalent experience required. Must be able to travel 30% and work independently.
