Role Summary

The Senior Investment Manager is responsible for the management of discretionary portfolios. In addition to their specific technical mandate the Portfolio Manager is accountable for client satisfaction and retention, problem resolution, the development and implementation of a written plan with respect to investment management and appropriate introductions to other RBC Professionals and businesses, ensuring optimal cross sell for their assigned book of High Net Worth (HNW) clients.

Main Job Accountabilities

Works with and supports the Relationship Managers in understanding client's investment objectives, risk appetite and time horizon. By use of profiling tools, evaluates client needs and investment goals to establish most suitable asset allocation model.
Assists in determining and establishing the appropriate investment model portfolio for each discretionary account and ensuring that recommendations meet client investment guidelines.
By use of a combination of internal and external models and managers, within guidelines, constructs a suitable portfolio to meet client needs. Evaluates and develops a transition plan where a client has existing assets.
Understands the level of risk associated with investment strategies and ensures that this information is disclosed to clients.
Invests client assets in conformity with set investment objectives and strategic guidelines established by Global and Local Investment committees.
Is responsible for maximizing the asset value of the client’s portfolio, ensuring that performance is commensurate with the investment objectives and risk profile of the client within the GIS framework.
Maintains effective communication with discretionary client, discussing investment strategy, process, portfolio performance, investment results and financial market outlook.
Periodically reviews portfolio in conjunction with the Relationship Manager, including at minimum an annual review of the portfolio structure and content.
Builds strong and profitable long-term relationships in collaboration with Relationship Manager and Professional team.
Recognizes both personal and business interests of clients, acknowledging the close relationship between both.
Supports the Primary Relationship Manager in building an internal and external network to capitalize on business opportunities and referrals.
Supports the Primary Relationship Manager in ensuring that client complaints are addressed in accordance with policies and procedures
Seeks continuous improvement on client satisfaction measures and meeting annual targets.
Ensures all investment management documentation and actions meet with internal and external compliance requirements.


Education & Experience required

At least 10 years of experience in the banking and finance sector with relevant experience in discretionary portfolio management
Strong background and knowledge in Asian and Global equities. Should also have good working knowledge of other asset classes
Experience in managing a team is essential
Proven client service skills and has demonstrated an ability to develop mutual relationships with clients and their advisors.
Recognized as a team player and able to gain the trust and support of others, encourages collaboration
Proficient in written and verbal communication in English and preferably one other Asian language
Ability to operate in a complex business environment, and be flexible to business changes in line with business strategies.
