Director - Public Policy & Government Relations - Uber Technologies - Singapore
Job description
Uber is a tech start-up headquartered in San Francisco, California. We’re a game-changing company, disrupting the establishment by allowing users to request quality, on-demand services with a touch of their smartphone. We are in over 200+ cities worldwide, with plans to rapidly expand our growth in the region.
Urban transportation has looked the same for a long time—a really long time—thanks in large part to regulatory regimes that discourage innovation and entrepreneurship. We think it is time for a change, and Uber’s Public Policy team is pressing for that change around the world. As our front lines expand—and our opposition grows—so do the demands on our Public Policy team, and we’re looking for a leader to develop scalable policy strategies to facilitate Uber's rapid business growth. This position is based in Singapore.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Manage and lead a regional public policy team, developing strategies and structures for keeping markets open, and opening new ones.
Analyze existing and proposed laws and regulations for impact on Uber or our transportation partners.
Design regulatory and legislative proposals in support of those strategies.
Directly engage policymakers, their staffs and third parties to educate them about Uber's business model and vision.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Hustle – The Policy team moves fast. If you're dependent on your little black book, this isn't the job for you. We're operating in and going to new places. The right candidate makes friends fast, figures out their enemies faster, and isn't uncomfortable getting on a plane without a change of clothes.
A Wonk — We’re helping develop the regulatory infrastructure for the next generation of transportation services. You need to be comfortable with complex legal issues and wading through convoluted regulatory regimes, but comfort with our issues only matters if you can articulate them in a plainspoken manner to a wide variety of audiences at a moment’s notice.
Attitude – We work awfully hard and we’re having a blast doing it. This team believes what we’re doing is changing the world for the better, and we play to win. Compulsive people-pleasers need not apply.
Competitive candidates probably have at least 15 years of experience in a shoe-leather public policy role. But the length of your resume is significantly less important than the other qualities we're looking for (see, e.g., hustle, wonk, and attitude).
PERKS
Employees are showered with Uber credits each month.
Ground floor opportunity with the team; shape the strategic direction of the company.
The rare opportunity to change the world such that everyone around you is using the product you built. We’re not just another social web app, we’re moving real people and assets and reinventing transportation and logistics globally.
Sharp, motivated co-workers in a fun office environment.
