Job description

The APAC Director of Communications and PR will be responsible for overseeing activities for the APAC PR, social media and employee communications teams and will report directly into the Global VP Communications Director in Chicago.

This role will require an innovative, strategic and hands on communications professional with experience devising and executing successful public relations initiatives across the diverse APAC region (focusing on MY, SG, TW, HK). You will thrive in an agile entrepreneurial environment and relish a challenge of evolving our brand to become an innovative leading e-commerce marketplace.

You can navigate the demands of working for a fast-moving, matrix structured organization and are accustomed to working across different cultures and time zones. You are forward thinking and able to create and cultivate innovative PR opportunities. You are keen to tackle the unique challenge of supporting markets with high brand awareness alongside those where brand visibility is still growing.

You will be leading and developing a small dedicated and hands-on team of communications professionals based across the 12 countries, who have a passion for our business.

The role:

Devise and deliver country-specific and regional media relations strategies and programs that externally promote differentiation from our competitors, raise awareness and understanding of our full suite of products and services to key audiences in Asia Pacific and help strengthen our brand.
Manage and collaborate with both the internal regionally spread team and external PR agencies to develop and execute these strategies.
Adapt and localise global announcements, initiatives and copy so they resonate with media at the local country level.
Compose compelling PR pieces to drive our brand (eg press releases, social media content, strategic plans).
Cultivate productive relationships with key journalists in the region.
Collaborate closely with the local and global Marketing teams to ensure alignment across strategic initiatives.
Create and drive PR strategies around branded and industry events.

Desired Skills and Experience

9-12 years’ experience in communications for a multi-national, media or PR agency within the APAC region.
Great relationship-building skills and the ability to work across 12 different cultures and multiple time zones.
Experienced in managing people both directly and remotely within the APAC region.
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
Able to effectively localise global announcements and initiatives for the APAC audience.
Crisis communications experience.
Experience working with senior management.
Social media management.
Language skills are highly desirable.
