Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated Manager of Solutions Architecture, APAC Public Sector, to build and manage a team of Solutions Architects (SAs) and also to lead them by example as a the lead SA supporting public sector customers across the region. You would help accelerate our growing business as part of the APAC Public Sector business development and sales team based in Singapore. As the Solutions Architect Manager, APAC Public Sector within Amazon Web Services, you will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build mind share and broad usage of AWS's utility computing web services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Relational Data Service, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Elastic MapReduce, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon Workspaces, and a host of other cloud services. You will help bring those powerful capabilities to bear on the IT challenges facing public sector customers and the larger ecosystem that supports them. Your responsibilities will include: supporting the business development and sales team as it expands regionally, while owning the technical engagements with customers and solution providers (systems integrators and ISVs), helping to define implementation architectures, responding to RFPs, standing up demonstration and proof-of-concept systems, and achieving ultimate success around specific technical projects, etc.
To achieve those goals-and building on your broad background and technical breadth and depth in security, networking, operating systems, and application architecture -you will develop expertise in all AWS technologies, and deep understanding of how applications and services are best built and operated on the AWS platform. In addition, you will lead a team of equally talented SAs, helping them to set and surpass their own goals.

Have a strong understanding of security, standards, and compliance for designing large scale cloud computing solutions. You regularly take part in deep-dive education and design exercises along with driving technical discussions to create world class cloud-based systems for public sector customers and our partners, including system integrators and ISVs.

You will assess the strengths of your team members, guide them in setting, achieving, and surpassing their goals, and help them to develop professionally to the next level of excellence. Candidates should have strong experience in most or all of the following areas:
Executive speaking and presentation skills - Formal presentations, white boarding, large and small group presentations.
Technical - Web services development/deployment experience, IT systems and network engineering experience, security and compliance experience, software engineering experience, etc.
Operational - Web site/web services as well as traditional IT operations, management, and security experience.
Economic and business - Deep understanding of cloud computing as a fundamentally disruptive technical and business strategy; market analysis skills; cost/benefit/TCO analysis skills, RFP/Acquisition support skills; etc.
Public sector - Advisory/consulting experience with public sector customers.
Management - Experience hiring and managing a team of top-notch technologists.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Serve as the leader of the APAC Public Sector Solutions Architecture team, and be a key member of the business development and sales team as together we ensure agency success in building and migrating applications, software and services on the AWS platform.
Engage, educate, and guide systems integrators, and provide architectural support their technical implementation efforts.
Assist solution providers with the definition and implementation of technical and business strategies that will enable them to sell more of their offerings on the AWS Platform.
Capture and share best practices and grow the knowledge base amongst the AWS solutions architecture community.
Understand the AWS market segments, customer base, and industry verticals.
Understand and utilize salesforce.com and other internal Amazon technology support systems.
The successful candidate will possess both technical and customer-facing skills that will allow them to be the technical of Amazon within the AWS partner ecosystem as well as directly to end customers. He or she will be able to drive discussions and advance IT projects with senior technical and management personnel within an agency or university, as well as the technical background that enables him or her to interact with and give guidance to software developers, IT pros, and system architects. The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges. Finally, and of critical importance, the candidate will be an excellent technical team manager, someone who knows how to hire, develop, and retain high quality technical talent.
Strong verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to persuade and influence both business and technical decision makers.
Minimum of 7-10 years of software design and development and/or IT and virtualization, storage, database, and networking implementation/consulting experience within the public sector.
Bachelors degree or equivalent in a technical field (computer science, software engineering, math or similar focus).
Five or more years management experience with technical teams.
Building on the above:
In addition to strong verbal and written communications skills, the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations and to bring about major change a cross-organizational manner.
A deep understanding of modern distributed systems, of the challenges and solutions that allow modern applications to achieve high scale and high availability in the face of intermittent network and hardware failures.
Five or more years experience with software development and engineering practices as well as Internet/web and SOA/web/cloud services technologies.
Experience in and understanding of mobile applications and the Internet of Things.
Experience with VDI solutions and technologies.
Understanding of application, server, and network security, as well as government security compliance regimes and certifications.
Proven ability to mentor, motivate and develop technical talent (hire and retain the best talent).
