Director Regional Engagement ISO Singapore

Job Description:
The position is based on a recent decision of the ISO Council to continue an engagement initiative for the Asia-Pacific region, based out of Singapore. The ISO Central Secretariat (ISO/CS), to-date based exclusively in Geneva, Switzerland, is now looking for a Director (Regional Engagement) to lead the ISO Singapore office.

Under the direction of the Acting Secretary-General and in close cooperation with the senior leadership at the ISO/CS, the Director (Regional Engagement) will leverage his/her knowledge of the Asia-Pacific landscape to act as an advocate for ISO and as a catalyst for regional engagement, rolling out a three-year business plan for the Asia-Pacific regional engagement initiative which supports the deployment of the ISO Strategy 2016-2020 and an ISO Academy work plan in the region. She/he will work with ISO/CS to support the ISO members in the Asia region as well as facilitating collaborations between the ISO members in Asia and outside Asia.

To this end, the Director (Regional Engagement) will plan, organize and drive the policy and strategy for the Asia Pacific region, which mostly include countries within a four hour time difference with Singapore, in line with three key objectives viz. (i) building the capability of ISO Members to meet their stakeholder needs; (ii) enhancing collaboration and partnerships; and (iii) increasing advocacy activities for standardization through engagement with senior industry leaders and regulators to raise the profile and benefits of ISO standards.

2 Classification and reporting line

The Director (Regional Engagement) will report to ISO Acting Secretary-General.

3 Main responsibilities
Oversees the Regional Office in Singapore including its annual operating budget.
Identifies the strategies, procedures and priorities for the development and implementation of a three-year business plan for Asia-Pacific regional engagement initiative in Singapore
Proposes relevant KPIs to measure the impact of the strategy and the initiatives taken
Studies and assesses the standardization needs of the region and advises the Leadership team of ISO Central Secretariat in Geneva on the most effective approaches to build up the capabilities of members in the region, thereby increasing members’ participation and technical expertise at a regional level and helping ensure ISO’s continued relevance and success.
Elaborates, directs and oversees engagement with ISO members in the region, especially senior leaders in government and industry, as well as key regional bodies to promote the benefits of ISO and ISO’s members. The Director (Regional Engagement) will also build on and strengthen relationships between ISO members, encouraging communication and the exchange of best practices at a regional level.
Conducts training and development at relevant workshops to build technical expertise in the region and boost participation in ISO’s standardization activities
Represents ISO at regional and international meetings and delivers presentations on ISO
Drives efforts to increase customers and stakeholders’ engagement and satisfaction in the region
Provide inputs to the ISO Central Secretariat in the development of ISO’s Regional Engagement Strategy, under the leadership and guidance from ISO’s Council Standing Committee on Strategy and Policy Committee to support the deployment of the ISO Strategy 2016-2020, using the experience in Singapore.
Promote and enhance communications, within and outside of the organization, in collaboration with ISO’s communication team, to promote standardization activities and the benefits of standards and increase the visibility of ISO members and of the ISO brand in the region
Directs, monitors, supervises and evaluates the work of staff assigned to the Regional Office and secondments from other national standards bodies assigned to field activities.

5 Experience

Note: This position will be based in Singapore
At least 10-15 years of management experience in the standards and conformance related areas, at regional level in the Asia-Pacific region
High-visibility leadership positions at global level and in negotiating with international stakeholders
Strong knowledge and experience of various Asia-Pacific cultures
