IP & Science has a strong and growing business in the Asia Pacific (AP) region. To continue with and further accelerate growth, IP & Science is looking to recruit a Director, Strategy & Business Development based in Singapore.
Role Purpose:
Work with the IP & Science Strategy and Business Development team to identify, detail and execute profitable growth strategies in AP, Lead the identification and execution of business development opportunities with particular emphasis on China and India. Provide strategic planning support to the AP leadership team which drives organic growth through Asia. Ensure that the IP & Science strategy is fully communicated to the AP leadership team and that the AP opportunity and supporting strategies are clearly articulated and incorporated into the IP & Science business strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive Business Development
o Identify and execute acquisition and partnership opportunities with a near-term target of 3-5% incremental growth from acquisitions
o Understand global business development directions and priorities; tailor to Asia Pacific region with particular emphasis on requirements for India and China
o Articulate strategic rationale for opportunities while engaging global and regional stakeholders
Identify profitable Growth Strategies
o Define an actionable framework and implementation plan for accelerating growth through organic investments and acquisitions
o Identify growth opportunities by analyzing market and customer trends and competition
o Drive execution of growth strategies
Support Strategic Planning
o Define and continuously refine the AP strategy and execution roadmap in close coordination with the overall IP & Science strategy
o Actively provide an Asia Pacific perspective on the global strategic plans.
o Lead Asia Pacific strategy and business development reviews with country organizations
Communications & Relationships
o Develop and maintain external industry and customer relationships to identify market trends, competitive dynamics, acquisition/partnership ideas and other business development opportunities.
o Effectively communicate the global strategy to the AP management team, whether IP&S or BU specific.
o Ensure that the AP management team are fully informed in the global strategy initiatives and the global strategy and development team are kept fully informed and updated on opportunities in the major regional markets
· Proven ability to guide strategic planning for a $100M or larger organization.
· Proven track record of deal making and development
· Experience in building a fact base to support strategy
· Asia Pacific regional experience - India and China in particular
· Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills; ability to constructively share objective analysis and insights with organization
· Proven ability to provide direction, understand resource capability and turn findings into executable plans to drive results
· Able to work in and bring structure to ambiguous environments
· Ability to link strategy with financial plans
· Ability to influence across the organization at multiple levels
· Excellent oral, written and formal presentation skills including ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way
· Experience managing external consultant/projects
· Ability to travel regionally and internationally as needed

Qualifications:
· Bachelor Degree or MBA preferred
· 5+ years of work experience, preferably within strategy, sales and business development, finance, and/or planning, ideally complemented by some people management experience
· Proven track record of deal-making and execution in AP - India and China a must
· Experience working with a tool kit of frameworks to analyze and assess industry dynamics and business decisions
· Industry experience in Information Services, STM Publishing, Pharma/Life Science, Academic & Government, relevant R&D, content/data publishing experience is a plus
